Not again

After nearly a year, we had all but put the events behind us. Everything was pretty much back to normal and we hardly give the enucleation a second thought. Then we saw a freckle appear just to the right of his iris, almost as though it was extending. We took him to the vet and we arranged a trip to the specialist. They advised it ws likley just a freckle and as it wasn’t raised, not to worry. We agreed to keep track of it and leave it for 6 months.

After a few months we realised that it was growing quite rapidly. A comment by the vet during a routine visit had us even more concerned and we made an urgent trip back to the specialist: she confirmed that it needed to be operated on!

To say that we were distraught would be an understatement! Our immediate thought was that he would also lose his remaining eye so shortly after the other, and that we would be putting him to sleep only for him to wake up to a dark world. This was a devastating thought: he makes a real point of gaining eye contact with us most evenings whilst on the sofa, he is so independant off lead and loves running around the parks and forests; all of that would be gone.

But we needend have worried, the surgeon was assured us the she could save the eye and that his vision would not be impaired, the benefit of having caught it early. He was booked in a few days later.
